View: Everton ace Nathan Patterson sends Frank Lampard a message

Nathan Patterson has sent Everton boss Frank Lampard a back-handed message following his impressive display for Scotland on Friday [March 24].

The 20-year-old was the star of the show for his national team as Poland pegged them back to a 1-1 draw following a controversial last-gasp penalty.

The Blues defender was excellent both in attack and defence down the right-hand side and Lampard needs to consider giving the youngster more game time.

If the Toffees boss hasn’t already taken notice Patterson’s comments after the game might change that, particularly the words about starting the match.

He told Liverpool ECHO: “I’m really enjoying being back with the squad. It’s what I want to do, I want to play football so being back out there from the start was a great experience again and being in front of the home fans is great,” Patterson said after the game.

“I thought the team played really well, there were a lot of key moments in the game. I had a lot of chances myself but never put them in the back of the net.”

Give him a go

Patterson joined the club under former manager Rafa Benitez which already put him on the back foot when he was fired.

The Scot has failed to make an impact on Merseyside, having very little game time since his January arrival.

For a long time, it was believed that if the former Rangers man was patient enough, he would get his chance but that doesn’t seem to be happening.

He holds all of the qualities that Everton are crying out for. He is quick, strong, excellent in both attack and defence and will wear his heart on his sleeve as he tries so desperately to impress – as seen on Friday.

Instead, Lampard would rather back Seamus Coleman who despite being a club legend, is well past his best.

The defender did play against Boreham Wood, but he was whipped off at halftime rather disappointingly.

The former Chelsea boss has to give him a chance because his energy more than makes up for his lack of experience and after all, could things be any worse than they currently are? Highly doubtful.

In other Everton news, the Blues could dismiss Dele Alli without having to pay a penny for him – report.
