Stan Collymore: Everton attacker Dele Alli must retire if football is not that important

Stan Collymore has savaged Dele Alli for his performances since his move to Everton in the January transfer window.

After being on the fringes at Tottenham Hotspur, a move to Goodison Park seemed the right way to get his career back on track.

However, since joining the Toffees, he has failed to win over Frank Lampard and has been relegated to the sidelines at the club.

In his Mirror column, Collymore wrote, “Dele needs to answer some serious question, for himself, no one else. He has to ask: Do you want to play professional football, or are you not cut out for it?

“If no, then get to the end of your contract, and move on with life. If he doesn’t want to be a pro footballer, get your head down.”

“Dele Alli may decide he doesn’t love it anymore. Go and find something you are passionate about, and don’t cheat the game by going on a circus around other Premier League clubs.

“He’d be cheating the fans and clubs and managers of those clubs. He’s gone from the next golden midfielder in Europe, to people asking if he is still a Premier League player. The answers can only come from Dele.

“Look in the mirror and be honest: Do you want to be a pro or not? Don’t drift for another five years because that would be a crime against his ability.”

Brutal

Collymore hasn’t held back his punches in his brutal assessment of Alli.

However, it is hard to argue with what he thinks of the England international.

At one point, he had better numbers than the likes of Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard did at his age.

However, since then, it seems like the success got to his head and he stopped focusing on improving himself.

Now, everything seems to be a joke for him and he’s got to improve before he finds himself without any team wanting him on their books.
