Everton stadium development at Bramley-Moore Dock reaches 12-tonne ‘huge milestone’

Everton have some rare good news with the “huge milestone” of the Bramley-Moore dock Stadium’s fourth corner being installed, the Liverpool Echo reports.

The last of the 12-tonne cores, one for each corner, has now been lowered into place to give clear dimensions for the Toffees future home.

It is a rare positive development around the club in recent months, as poor form on the pitch has left the club in the midst of a relegation battle, and financial concerns off the pitch have compounded the potential disaster of dropping out of the league.

The funding issues are intrinsically tied up in the stadium project as well, but this news is a major step forward towards completion of the project.

Laing O’Rourke Project Engineer, Peter Jackson said, via the Liverpool Echo: “This is a huge milestone for us. There are four main cores in the stadium, and we started in the north stand and then in the south west corner and now, finally, the south east corner of the building, which is the final stage of getting up and out of the ground.”

New home

As the new stadium comes together it is a reminder of what is at stake for the players over the final few weeks of the season.

Frank Lampard is struggling to get a consistent tune out of a squad that is at best inconsistent.

The financial implications of falling out of the top flight are major, and with the loss of the sponsorship income when ties were cut with Alisher Usmanov after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, even more so.

The Daily Mail had reported that the billionaire’s naming rights deal for the Bramley-Moore stadium was due to last between 10 and 20 years, and would have been worth between £8million and £15million a year to the club.

The same report raised the point that while the construction of the stadium itself was not affected, the club’s ability to repay loans connected to the development will be.

Staying the Premier League, and all the riches that automatically entails, is key to that.

The capacity increase of over 13,000 from Goodison Park will also help, but that gain would likely be negated if it isn’t top-flight football being played there.

In other Everton news, those Premier League riches the club needs are set to be greater than ever with an “extraordinary” £10.4billion on the table.
