Everton need to play homegrown talent to survive slippery slope
Things are going far from swimmingly at Everton right now and the future isn’t looking the brightest either despite a new stadium under construction.
The football club announced their accounts for the latest financial year on Tuesday (29 March) and it didn’t make for good reading whatsoever with a massive £120million loss the overall number.
It’s a huge amount of money to lose in just one year and the club have only avoided sanctions, including a points deduction, thanks to the very deep pockets of owner Farhad Moshiri.

Frank Lampard has a tough assignment ahead of him despite the wealth of Moshiri and he needs to find a way to turn things around on the pitch while helping the club profit too.
There is one very easy and manageable way for him to do that but it will require him to trust what he already has at the club rather than splashing the cash in the transfer window.
Whether Everton remain a Premier League club or not next season, Lampard has to put his full belief in the academy products breaking through at Finch Farm because he will not be able to spend the money to improve the team otherwise.

Some of the kids might not be as good as those currently starting every week at Goodison Park but maybe now is the time to look more long term given how dire the short term appears to be.
The ongoing rumours surrounding a number of Everton players potentially leaving the club could see the Toffees be favourites for relegation next season if they stay up this campaign.
It’s a tough job and a risky strategy but maybe that is exactly what the club needs right now.
