Keith Hackett blasts lenient Everton reaction to fan trouble v Aston Villa

We’re delighted to welcome former Premier League referee Keith Hackett as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton...

Keith Hackett has blasted the reaction to Everton fan trouble in their Premier League clash with Aston Villa.

The ex-FIFA official insisted that the fan found guilty of throwing objects at players should have been banned for life.

Instead, the Toffees fan was only given a four-year ban and a suspended jail sentence for throwing the bottle at Matty Cash.

“I was disappointed,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“I think he should have been banned for life and I think that is a weakness in the system. But, it shows how quickly and how good the security systems are that can produce the evidence.”

Hackett’s view is clearly understandable, is this really a warning to stop others from doing the same?

Everton are in a position of struggle right now, and could even find themselves in the Championship next season.

This fan will only be banned for four years, and it may take that long before any kind of success could return to the blue half of Merseyside.

There have to be stricter punishments, starting with if you break the law inside or around the ground, you simply get given a lifetime ban.

That is the only way to stop these things from happening.
