Newcastle set for transfer meeting this week, Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin on agenda – report

Newcastle are set for a recruitment meeting this week with Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin on their agenda, according to Craig Hope.

The club could be forced to wait until November for their new sporting director, Dan Ashworth, to arrive from Brighton, with the south-coast club refusing to let him leave early from his post, potentially complicating Newcastle’s plans for the summer.

Calvert-Lewin has so far managed just 10 appearances in a Premier League season blighted by injury, scoring three goals.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, the Daily Mail journalist, Hope, shared the latest from St James’ Park this week.

“Also detail of Newcastle recruitment meetings as summer plans are discussed this week – GK, CB, CM, W, CF all on list,” he wrote.

“Among outfield names mentioned to us; J Gvardiol, L Kelly, Y Bissouma, K Phillips, B Johnson, M Diaby, D Calvert-Lewin, D Nunez, P Schick and A Isak.”

However, the 25-year-old found the net 29 times in the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons combined and appears to be on the radar of mega-rich Newcastle.

A huge blow for Everton.

Losing Calvert-Lewin would be a massive blow for Everton boss Frank Lampard as he looks to rebuild at Goodison Park.

Beyond simply the goals he contributes, the striker is very much the heart and soul of the Everton team.

His injury-marred campaign has coincided with Everton plummeting down the league table.

The Toffees are currently just three points clear of the relegation zone in 17 th, having finished in 10th last season. In his absence, Everton have struggled mightily for goals.

Only three Premier League sides have scored less in 2021/22. No one has scored more often for Everton in the last three seasons than Calvert-Lewin, with Demarai Gray currently the club’s top Premier League scorer this season with just five goals.

For their part, Newcastle have also experienced difficulties in the goalscoring department.

Callum Wilson has produced when available, but another injury problem always appears to be around the corner. Meanwhile, Chris Wood has netted just once since his January arrival from Burnley.
