View: Anwar El Ghazi should leave and never look back at Everton

It has been a nightmare of a loan spell for Everton winger Anwar El Ghazi having barely played since joining the club in January.

The Egyptian was signed under Rafa Benitez from Aston Villa before he was sacked just three days later, highlighting the lack of direction at the club.

The 26-year-old has barely even played under Frank Lampard, seeing nine minutes’ worth of action.

The former Chelsea boss has a huge call on his hands following the season-ending injury to Andros Townsend leaving a gaping hole in the attack.

If El Ghazi benefits from more game time in his absence, he will surely leave at the end of the season and never consider a permanent deal at Goodison Park.

Farcical

You have to feel sorry for the former Ajax player. Steven Gerrard joining Aston Villa left him very much out of favour and Everton typically signing a player they don’t need has left him wasting half a season of his career.

He will be furious that he has come to Merseyside and done absolutely nothing when he could have been with the Lions staking his claim for first-team action – however unlikely that is with the current rebuild underway at Villa Park.

El Ghazi only has one man to blame – Farhad Moshiri. If he just stuck to the business side of things rather than trying to play the role of an agent, the Blues wouldn’t have signed him.

It looks very unlikely that he will make an impact on the Toffees before he departs but with Lampard desperate for results and the attacking options wearing even thinner, it isn’t impossible.

Hopefully, wherever he finds himself playing next season, he is respected a whole lot more than he has been with the Blues.
