Simon Jordan thinks Frank Lampard has ‘bitten off more than he can chew’ at Everton

Simon Jordan believes Frank Lampard may have ‘bitten off more than he can chew’ at Everton, but thinks they will ‘get away’ with relegation.

Lampard took over at Goodison Park in January but the club have struggled with their away form and sit just three points above the relegation zone with 12 games to play.

Jordan was asked by a fan during his One-2-One video for talkSPORT to rank ex-players that are now managers including Lampard, and revealed that he has some reservations about his attributes for the job.

“I was an advocate for Lampard at Chelsea because I felt that he was unfairly treated,” he said.

“Of course subsequent events with Chelsea winning the Champions League and the level of performance they put on justified that decision.

“Frank hasn’t hit the ground running at Everton. I think possibly he’s bitten off a little bit more than he can chew, not just because Everton are in a difficult situation but because I’m not sure that he has any reference point for underachieving players in a relegation battle. I think he might just get away with this one.”

Point to prove

Lampard has got a point to prove and if he can steer Everton away from relegation this season then he will have made a lot of people shut their mouths about him.

Right now he is struggling though. Since taking over Everton have won four of six home games in all competitions, but lost each of their away games and that is a huge issue with the league table as it is.

They still need to take on Burnley and Watford in the run-in, but they face five of the top six too and must face Leicester twice and Crystal Palace too meaning they essentially need a miracle to stay up.

With that said though, the three teams below them have all been struggling for points so they could essentially stay up simply because there are three worse teams than them in the division.

Lampard can save his reputation with a big managerial performance between now and the end of May, but if not he will struggle to land top jobs going forward.
