Stan Collymore bites back after Everton boss Frank Lampard’s criticism

Stan Collymore has responded to Frank Lampard after the Everton boss criticised him for his comments on Dele Alli’s future in the sport.

Collymore wrote a column in The Mirror where he called for the 25-year-old to retire from the sport if he wasn’t interested anymore, but Lampard responded saying the comments were “a little bit much”.

Now the former Liverpool striker has replied on his personal Twitter account, saying he stands by the original article he wrote and called for Lampard to make it clear what Dele needs to do to start playing again.

“I stand by the piece which asked two simple questions,” he said.

“1. How much does Dele want to play?

“2. Are there any underlying issues that he needs to address.

“If Frank is saying ( I like Frank and Dele and Everton ) Dele’s got a lot to prove, then the questions are, what, and why?”

Prove yourself

Collymore’s comments may have been a bit strong, but the point he was trying to make was a fair one and is something many can agree with.

If Dele can’t get in the team after being brought in specifically to help aid their battle against relegation, and can’t convince the manager who really wanted him, then what’s the point?

Someone needed to say it, because Dele has been protected so much in the media that it’s almost as if he’s done no wrong and is owed a favour by the club.

If he’s not doing enough then he needs to do more or step aside, and there’s nothing wrong with saying that out loud.

If Lampard says that he doesn’t see that in Dele then he has no reason not to give him a chance in the team to let him try and turn his career around at Goodison Park in the near future.
