Richard Keys shares what Andy Gray told him as Everton suffer ‘frightening’ loss v West Ham

Richard Keys believes everything happening to Everton right now is what usually happens to teams when they’re relegated.

Frank Lampard’s men lost 2-1 at West Ham on Sunday with an individual error by Alex Iwobi leading to the home side’s winner and Michael Keane getting himself sent off.

Everton are in huge trouble right now and Keys reckons that relegation is a growing possibility at Goodison Park.

“Six defeats in eight and we were watching that, Andy [Gray], Jason [MacAteer] and myself saying the sort of things that are happening to Everton right now, Keane going off today, you score and get back in it at 1-1 and you concede again so quickly after, these are things that happen to teams that get relegated.

“It’s frightening if you’re an Evertonian. Frightening.

“That’s the harsh reality. There are still games in hand and they may be enough. But the gap is only three points between Watford and Everton and five between the Toffees and Leeds.”

Relegation trouble

We’re not looking at the games in hand right now because we have absolutely no faith in this cowardly set of players being able to get anything out of them.

Burnley welcome Everton to Turf Moor on Wednesday and we’re expecting a very tough game and, ultimately, yet another defeat.

Sean Dyche has been in this situation a lot in his career. Lampard never has.

Most of our players haven’t either yet Burnley have the know-how on avoiding the drop to the Championship from years of coming close.

Everton should be chasing Europe. Instead, they’re chasing 17th.

If we stay up, it won’t be a celebration, it’ll be a sigh of relief because, at the end of the day, this squad of players and this leadership team deserve to get relegated.

We fans don’t, but it’s the fans who are hit the worst when stuff like this happens.
