Collymore blasts Everton chairman Bill Kenwright, questions Ferguson and Unsworth

Stan Collymore suggests Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has played a big role in the demise at Goodison Park in recent years.

Everton lost 2-1 at West Ham on Sunday and play one of their games in hand against relegation rivals Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday night.

Relegation to the Championship remains a major possibility at Goodison Park, where there’s been an absolute mess both on and off the pitch under Farhad Moshiri’s ownership.

But Collymore isn’t willing to let old pal Kenwright avoid the blame while he’s also questioned behind-the-scenes staff on Merseyside.

Writing in the Sunday People today [print edition, 3 April, page 50], Collymore said: “Bill Kenwright has always been kind to me and I don’t like writing this, but he has been involved in this spectacular fall from grace during the past six years. First-team coach Duncan Ferguson and Under-23s chief [David] Unsworth – good Evertonians both – are they fit for purpose? I hope so.

“Perhaps those are questions for when this has all died down. But you need a reaction from inside the dressing room and that time is upon everyone at Goodison Park.

“It’s pointless looking at Lampard. He can’t inject talent into them. But a change of attitude can be overseen, and generated, by the players themselves.”

Rotten

Everton’s season is dying a slow and painful death with aberrations happening both on the pitch and behind closed doors.

From a financial point of view, the club is in meltdown and we doubt that even avoiding relegation this season will solve that issue.

Getting relegated because of woeful performance on the pitch will not only be a stain on Everton’s great history but also it’ll also cause untold issues to the Blues’ finances.

The buck doesn’t stop at Kenwright because he’s overseen some great times at Goodison Park.

However, the 76-year-old has played a major role in the demise of the Toffees.

He should resign, he really should.

However, Kenwright always sounds like the one man high up at Goodison who’s not been scared to stand up against Moshiri’s ridiculous decision making.

Moshiri is the root cause of all our problems but we can’t do without him, either.
