Tony Cascarino points out chaotic Everton tactics under Frank Lampard

Everton are currently fighting for survival and Tony Cascarino doesn’t see their miseries ending any time soon under Frank Lampard.

The popular football pundit has expressed his doubt about whether “rookie” Lampard can drag them out of the mire, as he points out “chaotic” tactics implemented by him.

Lampard has endured a torrid time at Goodison Park since replacing Rafa Benitez, and he is yet to win a game away from home this season.

While writing for The Times, Cascarino has pointed out Lampard’s flawed tactical switch against West Ham in the 2-1 defeat.

“Tactically Everton have been quite chaotic,” wrote Cascarino.

“Lampard started his reign with three at the back in his first two games but since then he has repeatedly switched between three and four in defence.

“When he picked a back four against West Ham last weekend it was the seventh such change in his starting line-up from one game to the next.”

Injuries

Lampard has got a poor record away from home. He has become the first Everton manager in the club’s history to have lost four away games in a row.

The defence is one area that Lampard needs to work upon. The Toffees are conceding a lot of goals, with individual errors at the back hurting them badly.

It can be down to poor coaching as well, but players are making ridiculous mistakes which makes the task difficult.

At the same time, the Toffees are struggling badly with injuries that Cascarino has overlooked. In fact, Lampard has raised that issue previously.

Yerry Mina, who is arguably one of the best defenders if not the best at the club, has struggled with injuries this season and the Toffees have missed him badly.

Likewise, Ben Godfrey and Seamus Coleman also missed a few games under Lampard. And now Nathan Patterson is set to be out for the rest of the season.

It hasn’t been easy for Lampard to pick a stable back three or back four so far.
