Kevin Campbell gives Lewis Dobbin no chance to unseat Everton star Dominic Calvert-Lewin
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Breakthrough Everton striker Lewis Dobbin has got no chance of unseating Dominic Calvert-Lewin despite the star’s goal struggles says Kevin Campbell.
The England striker hasn’t scored since the opening weeks of the season, and with the Toffees badly needing goals to get them out of relegation danger teenage forward Dobbin could be an answer.
Despite breaking into the first-team under Rafael Benitez his only appearance for Frank Lampard was four minutes against Boreham Wood, and he was left on the bench in the loss to West Ham (3 April), but Campbell doesn’t expect much to change.

He exclusively told Goodison News: “I thought Dominic Calvert-Lewin did okay. Everton huffed and puffed [at West Ham] didn’t they?
“But Dominic Calvert-Lewin is in one minute, he’s injured the next. He hasn’t had a run since early season.
“I think he’s going to need a couple of games. Big game obviously against Burnley, massive game.
“I think he’ll be alright. I can’t see Lampard looking at Dobbin ahead of Calvert-Lewin, I mean come on.
“You know, Dobbin’s got a nice future ahead of him but Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s your star striker with Richarlison, so you’re not going to put that pressure on a youngster.
“You’re definitely going to look at Calvert-Lewin in that sense.”

19-year-old Dobbin got an encouraging half-hour in the draw at Chelsea earlier in the season, but has struggled for opportunities since.
His inclusion in the match-day squad at the London Stadium was a first in the Premier League under new boss Lampard, so perhaps he is in line to feature soon.
As Calvert-Lewin’s goal drought continues, that could be sooner rather than later, with a crucial trip to Burnley tonight (6 April).
