Everton close to ‘doomsday’ amid ‘depressing’ club atmosphere – Alan Stubbs

The Premier League picture is looking increasingly worrying for Everton with just one point separating them and the relegation zone.

The Toffees suffered yet another away defeat last night as fellow strugglers Burnley came from behind to win 3-2 at Turf Moor to drag the Blues into the mess once again.

The remaining fixtures don’t look favourable for Frank Lampard’s side either with Manchester United the visitors to Goodison Park on Saturday and ex-Toffee Alan Stubbs in worried.

Former Everton player Alan Stubbs looking frustrated

“It’s quite depressing right now as an Everton fan,” Stubbs told Sky Sports. “Everton, in the past, have surprised us in getting a result out of nowhere.

“It wouldn’t surprise me if they got a result on Saturday but I’m not very hopeful.

“For Everton to be in this position at this stage in the season is incredible to digest.

“It’s not about getting rid of Frank Lampard right now; it’s about the players trying to do whatever is necessary to get a result.

“There’s so many things wrong with Everton right now from the boardroom down to the pitch because it is perilously close to doomsday for Everton.”

Don’t deserve to stay up

It is an incredible shame for the forever loyal fans of Everton Football Club that they find themselves in this mess through no fault of their own.

But the lack of fight on show from those representing the club last night on the pitch suggests that they don’t deserve to still be Premier League players next season.

Some of these professional footballers are going to be in for quite the shock next season when they turn up to Millwall away and get rolled over because they lack the fight their opponents do.

It wasn’t a tactical masterclass that saw Sean Dyche’s Clarets win last night, rather that they had far more desire than anyone in white showed.

Lampard may have only joined in January but his job is already under major pressure and it might be good for the club if he’s given the boot to get a proper motivator in.
