Everton lead race to sign Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic
Everton are reportedly leading the race to sign Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic in the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old has dropped down the pecking at Santiago Bernabeu and Madrid are keen to get rid of his £83,000-per-week wages, according to a report from Serbian newspaper Blic (06 April, page 30).
The report claims that a fee in the region of £25m will seal the deal. Madrid are even willing to send him on loan just to get him off the payroll.
Frank Lampard previously wanted to sign him for Chelsea, and he is a player the Toffees boss wants badly at Goodison Park. He now has a chance to clinch the deal for the striker in the summer.
Safety first
Last month, Spanish outlet Marca, claimed that the Toffees enquired about signing Jovic in January but they failed to secure his signature.
Madrid invested around £50 million in him when they signed from Eintracht Frankfurt.
He is yet to start a single La Liga match for the Blancos, and has made only 13 appearances in the league from the bench.
He is a fantastic player, and had a great scoring record at Frankfurt. However, the move to Spain didn’t work out for him.
Everton badly need to sign a striker in the summer, irrespective of whether Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison stay or not.
Jovic may represent a gamble signing considering his failure at Madrid, but keeping his age, transfer fee and talent in mind, he is worth taking a gamble on.
However, Everton must shake off thoughts of transfer plans at the moment, and simply focus on survival in the Premier League.
