Everton teammates anger Anthony Gordon in 3-2 loss v Burnley

Everton suffered perhaps their most detrimental defeat of the season last night as fellow relegation strugglers Burnley beat the Toffees at Turf Moor.

Richarlison’s brace was not enough to gain even a point as Nathan Collins, Jay Rodriguez and, crucially, Maxwel Cornet gave the Clarets all three points to leave Everton just one point above the drop zone.

Even though things were going well at 2-1 after the Brazilian had scored his second penalty of the game, Anthony Gordon was still not happy with some of his teammates.

As the Liverpool Echo points out, Sky Sports cameras caught the 20-year-old starlet shouting towards some of his teammates as the celebrations rumbled on as not all of those on the pitch for the Blues went over to Richarlison.

It was a vital goal at the time as it would have put clear daylight between Everton and the bottom three had it stayed at 2-1 until full-time.

No togetherness

This moment just epitomises all that is wrong with Everton right now and there appears to be no easy solution to the mess that’s at hand.

From the very top with Farhad Moshiri to the bottom with the players, no one at the football club appears to be on the same page of this madhouse of a book they are writing.

Gordon is absolutely right to give those not running over to celebrate grief because he knows how much every goal can mean for the club at this moment in time.

More than ever, the playing squad needs to be unified in their belief to stay in the Premier League but right now, they look like they want to be relegated given how little fight they’ve shown.

Frank Lampard wouldn’t be begrudged if he gave the captain’s armband to Gordon for the visit of Manchester United to Merseyside on Saturday as he is the only one showing true leadership in this time of trouble.

In other Everton news, Alan Stubbs is fearful of the “doomsday” feeling around Goodison Park right now.
