Sky Sports pundit predicts Everton mess to be ‘making of’ Frank Lampard amid squad’s doubts news

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Frank Lampard will “make it” as a manager and the current mess at Everton will “be the making of him” predicts Kevin Campbell.

The former Chelsea boss has struggled to lift the Toffees since he replaced Rafael Benitez, winning only twice in the league, and a report in the Daily Mail this week suggested some players had lost faith in his methods.

The perceived lack of game plan and communication carries echoes of similar issues that occurred at Stamford Bridge before he was sacked, suggesting he hasn’t learnt from those mistakes, but Sky and talkSPORT pundit Campbell is confident in his future.

He exclusively told Goodison News: “He’ll make it. I can’t see them going down myself. I think they’re going to survive, maybe just by the skin of their teeth but I’ve got to think that way.

“I think this experience is going to make Frank Lampard because it’s all very well cutting your teeth at the top end when you’ve got that Chelsea squad and you’ve got all the fancy players.

“This is where you really find out what’s what. This is where you really get tested on your managerial career.

“Many managers have been through this and it’s made them better managers.

“So I think this will be the making of Frank Lampard, I really do.”

Perhaps Campbell is right and it is going to take real struggles in management to make Lampard appreciate what he has to do to improve.

It doesn’t feel like it is proving to be the making of him in the short term yet, as losses keep notching up and relegation becomes more real.

There’s no doubt that the 106-cap England international, record Chelsea scorer, and Champions League winner has a football brain and knows how to win, but whether he can relay those qualities onto others is a lingering doubt.
