Gary Neville reacts to Everton win over Manchester United, calls what he saw ‘a joke’
Gary Neville branded Manchester United “a joke” after Everton were victorious at Goodison Park, while congratulating manager Frank Lampard.
Anthony Gordon’s first-half strike deflected in off Harry Maguire, and a much-improved defensive display from the Toffees kept the visitors out for the rest of the match.
The win opens up a four-point gap over 18th-placed Burnley, and puts the pressure on Leeds in 16th, as well as providing a desperately-needed psychological boost.
In his immediate response on his Twitter page Neville wrote: “United a joke. Well done to Everton. Would have also been hard for Frank Lampard to hear Sean Dyche say what he said so well done to him. Some response.”
After a deflating late defeat at Turf Moor on Wednesday (6 April) the Clarets manager Sean Dyche was reported as telling his side that Lampard’s men had “forgotten how to win” (Sky Sports).
Big improvement
If the team played like they did today in every game they would be fine in terms of Premier League survival.
They weren’t perfect but they were competitive, and they made their opponents look toothless.
Lampard’s side took advantage of another side’s current issues for once, after so many occasions of the same thing happening in reverse.

The return of Fabian Delph was a big boost, and a goal for local hero Gordon was hugely pleasing for fans as well.
Jordan Pickford, under fire for recent performances and tipped to lose his England place, was huge in goal and made a number of crucial saves.
Ben Godfrey was strong in defence, and even Michael Keane looked something like the player he used to be, in a back line that was very much improved.
If they can build on this result, relegation will quickly fade into the background.
In other Everton news, Slaven Bilic thinks the team is in “shock” after what has happened in the last week.
