Robbie Savage predicts Everton to get relegated

Robbie Savage believes Everton will get relegated from the Premier League after the midweek defeat to Burnley swung momentum in their favour.

The Toffees now sit just one point above the relegation zone after losing 3-2 at Turf Moor in midweek, with Burnley having played the same amount of games as them

Now speaking to William Hill, Savage says the inexperience of Frank Lampard in relegation battles mixed with a ‘horrific’ run-in and momentum being in Burnley’s favour will see the blues relegated for only the third time in their history.

“I really can [see them getting relegated], especially after that 3-2 defeat,” he said.

“Momentum is with Burnley. They’ve only won four games all season, Everton have won seven, but Burnley have 12 draws.

“Look at it when Rafa was in charge, they were five points above the drop with two games in hand. Now they’re one point above it with no games in hand.

“Their run-in is horrific, I think Burnley have the better run-in.

“Sean Dyche is experienced in relegation battles, I think he’ll have more than Frank. Frank’s never been involved in a relegation battle in his career, so I’m going to go with Everton for the third time in their history to get relegated from the top flight. I can’t believe I’m saying that.”

Hard to argue

Based on everything we’ve seen this season, especially in recent weeks under Lampard, it’s really hard to argue with anything Savage is saying.

The team looks completely bereft of confidence or direction on the pitch, and away from home they can’t buy a win for love nor money.

In their final nine games they face Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Leicester twice and Crystal Palace, as well as clashes with fellow relegation strugglers Watford and Brentford.

That’s a really difficult run even at the best of times, so when the team is playing as they are it’s impossible to see where the points come from to save them.

Fans need to see a big change and quickly if they’re to stand any chance, and hopefully they’ll be able to come back to this in the summer and laugh at Savage for his prediction.
