Danny Murphy loves what ‘terrific talent’ Anthony Gordon is doing for Everton
Danny Murphy couldn’t talk highly enough of Everton starlet Anthony Gordon after his goal secured a 1-0 win over Manchester United at the weekend.
Gordon’s strike deflected in off Harry Maguire and earned the Toffees a huge three points in their relegation battle, moving them four points above the bottom three.
Speaking on talkSPORT [April 11, 12:54pm], Murphy picked him as one of his ‘top picks’ for the weekend and labelled the 21-year-old a ‘terrific talent’ who ‘epitomises everything good’ about the side.

“Anthony Gordon, he’s been Everton’s best player this season,” he said. “Their youngest player, local lad. He’s a terrific talent. Really, really good player.
“He’s only not started him in one game I think, Frank. Maybe two, one of them a cup game. But he’s played nearly every game under Frank Lampard which shows what he thinks of him.
“He got the goal albeit a little bit of a deflection, but it’s not just his ability with the ball. He’s great without the ball and he epitomises everything that’s good about them.
“We saw an interview he did, you can argue it was a silly thing to say, where he said ‘we won’t go down,’ but I like his resilience and his character. You know, ‘it won’t happen, we’re going to stay up.’
“Courage in your convictions. Say what you mean and mean what you say.”
Shining light
In what has been a rough and difficult season for Everton, Gordon has been the shining light at the end of the tunnel for the fans and the guiding light for the team.
Despite being only 21 and in his first full season of first-team football, he has been the one to lead from the front and lead by example with his attitude and performances.
He’s immediately become a fan favourite at Goodison Park and many will be hoping that he is rewarded with a brand new, long-term contract to thank him for his effort this season.
Everton aren’t safe yet, but if they manage to achieve safety and retain their Premier League status for next season then the England Under-21 international will be the leading reason for it.
With eight games to go, he has the chance to write himself into the club’s folklore and eventually become a legend so it’s great to see him getting the praise he’s receiving.
