Cristiano Ronaldo axed as Save the Children ambassador after Everton incident

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been axed as a charity ambassador of Save the Children after an incident against Everton on Saturday, according to La Gazetta Dello Sport.

The international superstar was frustrated with the Red Devils’ performance as the Toffees won 1-0 at Goodison Park and reacted to slap a supporter’s phone out of their hand on his way back to the dressing rooms, breaking the device.

He later apologised over social media but his actions have not been taken lightly by the charity and his role with the organisation has now, supposedly, been ended.

Merseyside Police have even opened an investigation into the incident with many supporters in the vicinity having filmed the moment Ronaldo snapped.

The result was a huge one for Everton as they dragged themselves ever closer to Premier League survival amid a horrid season of results.

Rattled

With everything he does, Ronaldo does not help his perceived attitude of a sulker whenever things don’t go his way.

He and his United colleagues couldn’t handle the passion of Goodison Park on a Saturday lunchtime and he couldn’t help himself but react when things didn’t go for him.

He did very little all afternoon to worry Ben Godfrey and Michael Keane in the Everton defence who both stood up in a big way after some tough times this season.

The result itself was enough to give Evertonians everywhere a very happy weekend but to see one of the world’s greatest ever footballers throw his toys out of the pram put the cherry on top of the cake.

Someone from the club will have to send some of the Under-18s to United’s training ground to teach the Portuguese striker a bit of maturity that he is obviously lacking.

In other Everton news, Michael Ball thinks this out-of-sorts Toffee needs a lot of work at Finch Farm before he’s ready to start games again.
