Richard Keys: Burnley to hire Sam Allardyce and send Everton into Championship, ‘fascinating finish’

Ex-Everton manager Sam Allardyce has a “double incentive” to take charge at Burnley, according to Richard Keys.

Sean Dyche was unexpectedly sacked by the Clarets on Friday (15th April) with the 18th-placed club four points adrift of Everton in 17th with eight games to play.

Allardyce, 67, has been out of work since leaving West Brom last year and has been mooted for the Turf Moor vacancy by Keys, who suggests he’d be keen to try and relegate his former club Everton.

“There’s probably too few games left for Sam to take it – but what a double whammy incentive he’d have – keep Burnley up and send Everton down,” said Keys via his personal Twitter account on Friday (15 April).

“It would make for a fascinating finish.”

Keys loves Big Sam, doesn’t he?

For some reason, he suggested that Allardyce would be a good fit to replace Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United before they eventually opted for Jesse Marsch and steered themselves away from relegation.

Now he wants him in charge at Burnley, which does make sense given his previous record of doing well in Lancashire and with teams facing relegation (except West Brom).

However, to try and make it about Everton is weird.

Of course, if Burnley do stay up, the club that goes down instead of them is likely to be the Blues.

But is it really likely for Burnley to do that?

We’d argue that their decision to sack Dyche will work in Everton’s favour because he’s done well in this position before at Turf Moor.

Relegation is still something on our minds but the fear is a lot less now Dyche has gone and we have a four-point gap.
