Everton’s Donny van de Beek will be back at Manchester United in the summer – Fabrizio Romano

Donny van de Beek’s future at Everton looks to be sealed after Fabrizio Romano’s latest update on activities at Manchester United.

Erik ten Hag is due to be announced as the new manager at Old Trafford for next season, which always appeared to represent the midfielder’s best chance of a revival at this parent club.

Having arrived at Goodison in the January transfer window having “wanted to permanently leave United for some time” (Manchester Evening News) there were hopes he might stay on Merseyside, but that door appears to have closed.

In an update on his YouTube channel yesterday (16 April), regarding ten Hag avoiding transfer mistakes in Manchester, Romano said: “I mention many times here on the channel Donny van de Beek.

“They signed him, Manchester United, for £40million, then they never played him for three or four consecutive games.

“This is why he was struggling and needed to leave the club on loan to join Everton.

“Then he will be back in the summer.”

No question

There wasn’t an element of doubt to what the Guardian journalist said, suggesting it is a foregone conclusion that the Dutchman will return to Manchester.

That seems pretty conclusive evidence that he won’t be extending his stay at Goodison at the end of the season.

Considering how his fortunes have turned in recent weeks he may not have been as keen to do so himself.

Everton

Finally liberated from being frozen out at United he started well under Frank Lampard.

He was particularly impressive in the 3-0 victory over Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds, as he looked to be showing what his employers had been missing.

But after playing regularly he missed the win over Newcastle, then was cup-tied for the FA Cup loss at Crystal Palace.

An injury in the warm up at West Ham on his return to the starting XI has kept him out since, as he wasn’t eligible to face the Red Devils in the last game.

And with Fabian Delph returning for that win he looks likely to face a struggle to break back into the team, so what started off so positively appears set to end with some disappointment.
