Barcelona to Everton would be ‘huge step down’ for Adama Traore – talkSPORT journalist

It would be a “huge step down” for Barcelona loanee Adama Traore to join Everton in the summer, according to talkSPORT journalist Angelina Kelly.

Football Insider reported on 20 April that the Blues are looking at Traore, 26, as a potential replacement for Richarlison and could make a move to sign the Wolves-owned forward if Barca don’t exercise their option to buy him.

However, talkSPORT’s Kelly doesn’t feel as though it’s a move that will happen due to there being bigger clubs than Everton trying to sign Traore in the summer.

“Everton reportedly want to sign the player,” said Kelly via the talkSPORT EDGE Twitter account on Thursday [21 April]. “However, no disrespect but moving from Barcelona to Everton would be a huge step down.

“There are clubs bigger than Everton who would probably be interested in the player.

“Sorry, I don’t see this one happening.”

Fair enough

While we can all be in agreement that Everton are one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League – arguably the biggest outside of the big-six – we cannot argue the fact that we’ve suffered a fall from grace.

If Traore is out of favour at Wolves, he might as well stay at Molineux and try and break back into their squad due to them being in a far better position than the Toffees are now.

Everton could well be a Championship club next season, let’s not forget that.

We have a four-point cushion between ourselves and 18th-placed Burnley but by the end of this week, we could see Frank Lampard and his men in the bottom three.

Would a Barcelona player want to join a club that’s been threatened with relegation from the Premier League this season? Absolutely not.

We don’t rate Traore that highly.

For all his strength, pace and power, he has absolutely no end product and that’s proven by the fact he has just 29 goal involvements (goals and assist) in his 154 appearances for Wolves.

Traore would be a good signing for Everton in the predicament they’re in but we just don’t see this one happening and we have to agree with Kelly.
