Jurgen Klopp destroys ‘over the top’ Everton ahead of Anfield clash

Jurgen Klopp has destroyed “over the top” Everton whilst singling out key duo Jordan Pickford and Richarlison for previously injuring Liverpool’s players.

The German’s comments come ahead of Sunday’s [April 24] Merseyside derby at Anfield as the Blues look to cause an upset to aid their relegation survival hopes.

Despite the bitter rivalry, the Reds’ boss admitted he wants Frank Lampard’s side to stay in the league.

“It is a great game honestly and I hope they stay in the league obviously because the Merseyside derby should always be on the fixture list,” he said as per Football Daily.

When asked if he would miss the derby, he replied: “There are a lot of derbies I would not miss because I really think there are moments they were over the top.

“I like physical football, I like all these kinds of things but you have to respect that the other guy has to play next week as well.

“We had the one game it was not only with Pickford [injuring Virgil van Dijk] and Richarlison on Thiago – that’s too much.

“Physically yes, aggression – legal aggression yes – but respecting the rules.”

Bitter.

Of course, nobody wants to see players injured, especially not to the extent of van Dijk’s season-ending injury last season at Goodison Park but that is football.

Liverpool might be used to opposition teams making it far too easy for them but not the Toffees.

Klopp claimed he loves the Merseyside derbies and that is a big part of them. Both sides have fought ferociously for decades to win the game and that isn’t about to change.

He would probably be praising his players for the heart they showed if it was the other way round.

Sunday is going to be an extremely tough game with the form Liverpool are in as they push for the quadruple but that is nothing new for the Blues who have so much experience of having their backs up against the wall in the derby.

If they could go there and get a result, not only would that be a huge step towards Premier League survival but it would also destroy their hopes of winning the title. That is what you call two birds with one stone.
