Paul Merson predicts result of Everton showdown v Liverpool in Merseyside derby

Paul Merson has backed Liverpool to smash Everton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon at Anfield.

The Sky Sports pundit has predicted it will finish 3-0 to the Reds in the Merseyside derby where no one wants to lose.

Frank Lampard will get his first taste of the fixture and will be hoping that his dreadful away record doesn’t continue.

Writing in his Sportskeeda column, Merson didn’t hold out much hope at all for the Toffees on the road this time.

“Liverpool do take their foot off the gas sometimes,” he wrote. “They can’t take their eye off the prize – one draw and that’ll be it for them.

“Jurgen Klopp won’t rest any of his players this weekend. This is a big football derby – the pride of the city. I’d be amazed if Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah didn’t play. You play them, get in front, and then take them off – not the other way round.

“It’s a nice situation to be in if you’re Jurgen Klopp. Everton will work hard and they’ll give Liverpool a game, but I don’t think they’ll win this match.”

Desperate.

If there was one game we didn’t want right now, it was this one.

Even we have to admit Liverpool are on fire right now after embarrassing Manchester United, and we have to hope Jurgen Klopp rests some of his main men.

As Merson mentions, though, we can’t see that happening, and we are going to need some of the biggest performances we have ever seen from our lads.

With big names such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin missing though, it is hard to see where the inspiration is going to come from.

Easier said than done, but Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz have to be kept quiet, if not, they will run riot.

We don’t hold out much hope, but we need to pray that Burnley winning last night has sparked a fire within.

Three points are a must in one of these next three games, let’s hope we get them on Sunday in what would be our biggest result in years.
