View: Everton need to show Mo Salah after disrespectful derby comments

Everton prepare to face Liverpool on Sunday [April 24] at Anfield in Frank Lampard’s first Merseyside derby as Blues boss.

Despite being very inconsistent in terms of form, the Toffees can prepare for this game with their heads held high having won 2-0 in this fixture last season.

The Reds are undeniably in great form as they continue to push for the quadruple but Mo Salah has seemingly let that go to his head with his arrogant comments.

After beating Manchester United 4-0 in the week, he told Thiago in the post-match interview: “You’ve never played a derby, just watch till the next one it’s going to be fun,” as per Sky Sports [April 19, 22:10].

Shock them.

Liverpool are obviously expecting this to be a stroll in the park on Sunday, aren’t they?

Not one single thing should be “fun” about a Merseyside derby and Everton need to make sure Salah and his teammates are aware of that.

Lampard needs to set the team out to cause hell at Anfield. Play ugly, be defensive and stop them from playing their game – the Blues have done it so many times before and they can certainly do it again.

The Toffees have their own incentives to win the game as they battle relegation.

Burnley’s win over Southampton last night [April 21] closed the gap on the drop zone to a mere one point which is more than enough incentive to get a good result at Anfield.

Not only that, stopping Jurgen Klopps’ side from winning the game would be a devastating blow in their push for the Premier League title – it would be two birds with one stone.

Form goes out of the window in crunch derby clashes which is perfect for the Toffees who are playing terribly. A positive result on Sunday would surely be the catalyst in a lift in performance for the team, ensuring Premier League survival.

In other Everton news, the Blues are to axe several senior players in summer for “hungrier” alternatives according to Chris Beesley.
