Alan Shearer savages Everton owner Farhad Moshiri, says club are a ‘monument to waste’
Alan Shearer has absolutely blasted Everton owner Farhad Moshiri and the running of the club, calling them ‘a model of how not to do it’.
Everton are currently one point above the relegation zone with seven games to go, following a shocking season which has seen them sack Rafa Benitez and new boss Frank Lampard come under pressure too.
But Shearer believes the board must take more criticism for the running of the club, telling The Athletic that calling them a mess ‘does not begin to cover it’.

“From the outside looking in, they’re a monument to waste and dysfunction and a model of how not to do it, spending something between £500 million and £600 million on new players since Farhad Moshiri came on board in 2016,” he said.
“And look at them. One place and one point above the bottom three with seven games left, burning through managers like they’ve burned through all that money, recently announcing losses of £372 million over the past three years, threatened with their first relegation since 1951 but with a new £500 million stadium being built, while being obliged to suspend their sponsorship deals with companies backed by Alisher Usmanov, the sanctioned Russian oligarch who is a long-time business associate of Moshiri’s.
“‘Mess’ does not begin to cover it.”

Boom
It’s been a long time coming, but Moshiri is finally being told some home truth by people with a voice and a profile and fans can only hope he starts listening.
Splashing the cash is one thing, and he has done that and can’t be faulted for it. But it’s what you spend the money on and there has been a complete lack of a plan at the club since his arrival.
There isn’t a style or a profile that gets targeted, it’s just throwing money at the wall and seeing what sticks. This type of season has been coming for a while.
If Everton are able to survive and he stays on into the next campaign, he needs people alongside him that know what they’re doing to help build the club back up after the troubles they’ve been through.
Shearer is absolutely spot on in everything he says there and it’s about time someone else said it, because he clearly doesn’t listen to the fans.
