Everton stadium plans seen as ‘most significant’ in a decade

Everton are ploughing on with the construction of their brand new Bramley-Moore Dock stadium and getting some big praise as a result.

The plans are costing the football club hundreds of millions of pounds but what will eventually become a 52,000-seater football ground is hoped to be able to levitate the Toffees to a new level.

The Liverpool mayor Steve Rotherham hailed Everton’s plans and the significance they hold in the community.

“The Bramley-Moore development stands as one of the most significant regeneration projects our region has seen in more than a decade and will be a major catalyst for regeneration and revival in an area that has been crying out for investment for decades,” he said, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

“It’s not just about a football stadium but is an important project that will generate a myriad of social and economic benefits for communities across our region.

“From creating thousands of local jobs, training and apprenticeship opportunities, to attracting hundreds of thousands of new visitors to our region and launching programmes that will help to tackle health and social inequalities.

“It was fantastic to visit the site and see how things are progressing – especially the important work to preserve the heritage of the site, partly funded through our £15m grant.”

Got to stay up

Not getting relegated from the Premier League is absolutely paramount at the best of times for the majority of clubs among the 20 but even more so for Everton now.

Frank Lampard’s side are embroiled in a fierce survival fight with Burnley refusing to let go of the one place that both sides are chasing.

If they are to go down to the Championship this season, they simply must come straight back up to gain the sweet TV money the Premier League offers to help fund these huge plans.

Relegation could even be the beginning of the end for the football club with finances already walking a tightrope as it is and Farhad Moshiri’s pockets perhaps becoming a little shallower than we first thought.

The stadium will be a magnificent sight once it is fully constructed but it won’t be looking quite so enticing if it’s hosting second division football instead of top-flight action.
