talkSPORT duo empty both barrels on Everton ahead of Merseyside derby

TalkSPORT duo Darren Bent and Andy Goldstein have emptied both barrels on Everton ahead of this weekend’s Merseyside derby.

Frank Lampard’s side makes the short trip across Stanley Park to face title-chasing Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday [April 24] evening.

The former England international claimed that any form of a positive result for the Toffees against their butter rivals would be the “biggest shock in Premier League history”.

Bent told talkSPORT: “I can’t see one iota of a chance that Everton can get anything against Liverpool.

“If Everton beat Liverpool, at Anfield, that could be one of the biggest shocks in Premier League history.

“At the minute Liverpool are unstoppable.”

Goldstein interrupted claiming: “Even a draw for Everton would be like a win, right? That is as bonkers isn’t it.”

Farce.

It would be a shock if Everton were to win on Sunday, yes, but to brand it the biggest shock in Premier League history is a joke.

The Blues might be in shocking form amid their relegation battle but they have faced the Reds in similar positions before and got something out of the game.

The form book goes out of the window for crunch derby games which levels the playing field for Lampard’s men at Anfield.

Admittedly, it is very unlikely that the Toffees get anything from the weekend’s game with their away form that bed despite playing in the same city.

But, a positive result would surely give the players all the momentum they need to secure their top-flight status for next season.

With the added bonus of stopping Liverpool from winning the league as they hunt down Manchester City. A huge game awaits, and the Blues need to restore their pride after a disgraceful season.
