Danny Murphy laughs off ‘Nonsense’ Everton admission ahead of Liverpool clash

Danny Murphy believes that it’s a ‘Nonsense’ thing to believe that relegation may actually be good for Everton.

He is of the opinion, that ahead of the Merseyside derby against Liverpool, the Reds fanbase will be split over whether or not they want their rivals to get relegated.

However, he fears the worst for Everton just in case they get relegated this season.

The Sky Sports pundit wrote in the Daily Mail, “Liverpool supporters are split over whether they want to see Everton relegated or not.

“Older fans are more likely to wish ill on the Bluenoses because it removes the only bragging rights they have left – that they’ve been in the top flight longer than Liverpool.

“Younger Reds will not want to miss out on the whole raucous derby occasion and a solid six points every season.

“Everton have struggled for a while but to suggest relegation might be good for them is nonsense. There’s no guarantee they would be able to come straight back up — it took Leeds 16 years — and the impact would be huge.”

Spot on

Under no circumstances will relegation benefit the Toffees.

Even if it means one season of resetting everything and playing weaker opponents, this is not a scenario that works out in their favour.

Like Murphy said, there’s no guarantee of them coming straight back up.

If they play in the Championship next season, a lot of their big earners will have to be sold the first time of asking.

Everton

This would mean a massive squad overhaul and that certainly affects the dressing room dynamics.

Hopefully, they manage to survive the drop but every game must now be treated like a cup final.

In other Everton news, a football finance expert has made a claim on the new Toffees stadium amid a major £300m development in the last week.
