Jamie Carragher: Everton relegation will be devastating

Jamie Carragher admits he would be devastated if Everton get relegated from the Premier League this season.

The Toffees are set to take on the Reds in the Merseyside derby today and will begin as massive underdogs.

With Burnley playing before them, a win could see them narrow the game and put more pressure on Everton ahead of the game.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said, “If you ask me, and I think a lot of Liverpool fans, you don’t want Everton to go down.

“For me, as a kid, a player and the job I do now, this is the biggest day.

“If you said to me we miss out on these two games next season, I’d be absolutely devastated.”

Weird one

Carragher was a boyhood Toffees fan so it makes sense why he could be sentimentally attached.

The Merseyside derby is also a big fixture but for Liverpool, it’s not really been a competitive one.

There’s a good chance that Jurgen Klopp rests a few key players for this one – that’s how much the gulf between the two sides now is.

Hopefully, the Toffees avoid relegation, but in case they don’t, the red side of Merseyside is certainly going to celebrate it.

They’re competing on multiple fronts so it could be part of their trophy parades as well.

In other Everton news, a football finance expert has made a claim on the new Toffees stadium amid a major £300m development in the last week.
