Journalist shares image of Everton fans during Liverpool tradition
The Merseyside derby is always a fierce affair and Everton fans were very keen to start the angst early at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
Before the game even started, the Toffees contingent antagonised the home faithful as the traditional rendition of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ was belted out around the Reds’ stadium.
Everton fans were having none of it though and turned their back on the ground as their city rivals warmed the vocal cords, as shared by journalist Henry Winter via his personal Twitter account.
As if this game needed more bite, the travelling support provided it and the players on the pitch responded with an intense opening 15 minutes.
They snapped at their opponents’ heels and fought for every ball in a start that will have encouraged Frank Lampard.
As one
This rivalry is unlike any other in the country with families split in two on at least two days of each year.
But when it comes to Liverpool’s most renowned tradition, you can’t stand there and accept it whether you have your own blood in the opposite end of the ground or not.

To see so many of the away contingent collectively turn their back on the entire stadium at such a moment shows the kind of togetherness and defiance that the players need to begin showing on the pitch too.
It was certainly a good start to the game for the Toffees although they were still under pressure more than attacking themselves but that will have been expected.
There is no hiding that these two sides are lightyears apart from each other but on derby day, anything can happen and the fans can be the 12th man.
