Alan Stubbs rages at referee after penalty decision in Everton v Liverpool
Alan Stubbs sent a message on Twitter to the PGMOL saying he expects an apology to Everton after the penalty decision that went against Anthony Gordon.
The Toffees fell to a 2-0 defeat at Anfield to fall into the bottom three for the first time, but winger Gordon was denied a clear cut penalty with the game in the balance at 0-0 in the second half.
Stubbs took to Twitter with footage of the incident and claimed he was expecting the PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited) to contact Frank Lampard and apologise again after another poor decision.
“Frank Lampard getting another call from Mike Riley and Stuart Atwell to apologise,” he said, while tagging the official PGMOL account too.
Gordon was booked in the first half for a dive trying to win a penalty, which seemingly went against him in this instance.
The PGMOL told Richard Keys that they would have ‘no complaints’ had a penalty been given, which tells you the original decision was an error.
Shocking
It’s just a shocking decision from the referee, there are no two ways about it. It’s just absolutely shocking.
Gordon was ahead of Matip in a foot race and he had his foot stepped on and there was a push in the back that sent him over, it’s a clear penalty.

Everton fans were clearly right to be furious at the time and Stubbs, who despite being a fan favourite with over 150 appearances for the club is also a fan, proved that with his online outburst.
He simply said what many people were thinking and it sums up the mood around the club right now, they’re not getting the rub of the green and they’re in trouble.
An apology simply won’t be enough. It wasn’t enough after it cost them a result against Manchester City and it’s not enough now that it’s potentially cost them a result against Liverpool.
Everton can’t blame anyone but themselves if they get relegated, but the officials certainly haven’t helped them at all.
