Everton ace Lewis Warrington takes swipe at officials on Twitter

Everton player Lewis Warrington has taken a swipe at the officials on Twitter after the Blues’ 2-0 loss in the Merseyside derby at Anfield on Sunday [April 24].

After a resolute first hour, the Toffees fell behind thanks to goals from Andy Robertson and Divock Origi with the loss leaving Frank Lampard’s side in the relegation zone.

There were several controversial decisions made throughout the match and Stuart Atwell and Darren England on VAR have found themselves under much scrutiny.

He wrote on Twitter: “Var not working today. Joke”

Farcical.

The officials were a disgrace. That second incident where Joel Matip brings Anthony Gordon down in the box is a stonewall penalty – There is absolutely no doubt about it.

People will say he didn’t get the decision because of the Liverpool born winger’s embarrassing dive in the first half but there is no excuse for VAR not to have intervened by telling Atwell it was a foul or even sending him to the monitor.

Lampard was right to have called out the Anfield impact before the game because it was in full effect yet again. It wasn’t only the big decisions that went the Reds’ way, Everton seemed to get absolutely nothing.

It was another bad refereeing display, like the penalty decision that went against the Toffees at Goodison Park against Manchester City, that cost them some points.

It is no coincidence at all that on both occasions it was the teams fighting for the league that got the call and not the one at the bottom.

Lampard will be hugely disappointed because it was a great performance from his side, one that certainly deserved a point.
