Richarlison makes promise to Everton fans following controversial defeat at Liverpool

Richarlison has promised Everton fans the team “will get out of this situation” in an Instagram post following controversial Liverpool loss.

The Toffees went down 2-0 at Anfield in a game that saw a number of incidents that left them feeling aggrieved, including the lack of a penalty when Anthony Gordon appeared to be fouled by Joel Matip at 0-0.

Forward Richarlison was also accused of playacting by Jamie Carragher on the Sky Sports match commentary, preceding a melee that saw Sadio Mane only receive a yellow card for what half-time pundit Kevin Campbell called a “gouge” at Mason Holgate’s eye.

Replays showed the Brazilian had clearly rolled his ankle, leading to former Liverpool defender Carragher to admit he had been “harsh” in demanding he “get up” previously (talkSPORT).

The result leaves Everton in the relegation zone, but following the game the 24-year-old posted on his Instagram stories a message accompanied by a photo of him with his hand over the badge on his chest saying: “let’s play with heart together”.

“I promise we will get of this situation”.

“fans need you next week”.

Easier said than done

Burnley’s sudden resurgence following the sacking of Sean Dyche has dropped Everton right in trouble.

It was always going to be a long shot to get anything from the game in hand held over the Clarets with the trip to Anfield.

But considering the differing circumstances between the Merseyside rivals the battling display was one of the more impressive showings in recent weeks, especially considering the otherwise terrible away form.

Had the crucial decisions not gone against them there is no guarantee they would have won, but being on the wrong end of them certainly went a long way to ensuring they didn’t.

The next game is a visit to Goodison from Chelsea, who secured a last-gasp win over West Ham prior to the game at Anfield.

The European champions are under pressure themselves after three home defeats to Brentford, Real Madrid and Arsenal saw them concede 11 goals.

And with Everton far stronger at home there is reason to believe an upset could be on the cards.

The club desperately need one, and a few more, if Richarlison’s promise is to come true, with the situation deteriorating.

In other Everton news, Frank Lampard could be in trouble with the FA who are set to contact him over his comments on the controversy at Liverpool.
