Sam Allardyce tells Frank Lampard how to avoid relegation at Everton

Sam Allardyce says Frank Lampard will be feeling the pressure of a relegation battle at Everton and says injuries could eventually cost them.

The Toffees fell into the relegation zone after defeat to Liverpool on Sunday, leaving them with six games to claw themselves out of trouble or fall to relegation for the first time since 1951.

Now Allardyce, who was being interviewed by talkSPORT [April 26, 7:40], thinks the current boss needs to get on to the medical team to get key players back fit with ‘time running out’.

“Oh massive [pressure],” he said.

“You’ve got to have a great staff now. You can get bogged down with the pressure. You need to stay calm within and with your exterior and show that you’re guiding the team in the right way.

“It’s a bit like the old duck in a pond while you’re looking calm on the outside below the water your legs are going ten to the dozen, but you can’t show that. You’ve got to be guiding the team and take a lot of team to process that with your staff.

“Who’s the best player to play? What’s the best system against this team? Who is available? Go to the medical staff and if we’re having too many injuries, why are we having too many injuries? Get these players fit. I don’t care what it takes, get them fit.

“If it takes keeping them all day at the football club then keep them all day. Make sure they get back in the squad, the bigger the squad the better chance you’ve got.

“Ultimately you could miss out by not having the best players available to you, particularly at this stage of the season when time is running out.”

Pain

The Toffees are in big, big trouble now and they need everyone at the club to rally together and give one big final push to try and save themselves.

That means the medical staff working overtime to get key players like Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Yerry Mina and Fabian Delph up to speed as soon as possible, and maybe the players working through the pain barrier if needed.

There are just a handful of games left so they will be able to get a nice long rest in the summer, and they’d much rather be doing that as Premier League players rather than Championship stars.

Lampard may also need to abandon his plans for pretty football and just focus on picking up points, regardless of how they have to do that over the next month or so.

Fans won’t care how they survive so long as they do and if anyone knows how to do that it’s Allardyce, so Lampard should be paying attention and taking notes.
