Frank Lampard urges Everton to not get caught up with outside murmurs

Everton boss Frank Lampard has urged his team to ignore all the negative outside noise surrounding the club as they battle for Premier League safety.

The 43-year-old replaced Rafael Benitez in the Goodison dugout in late January with the Toffees sitting four points above the relegation zone after an alarming dip in form under the Spaniard.

However Lampard has failed to reverse the slide and with the club now two points adrift of safety he has called for calm heads as his players look to avoid an improbable drop into the second tier.

“The outside world will love it, they will want panic,” he told evertontv (27 April).

“We have to take that on the chin. That is the size of the club and what we represent.

“Behind closed doors, how we train and prepare and feel as players and staff and as a club, we have to be positive and really believe.

“It is a huge thing for us, now, to take the attitude and belief from Sunday, and keep going for the final six games.

Fighting Talk

It’s all well and good Lampard saying this to the media but actions speak louder than words and Evertonians are yet to see much of the former during this abysmal campaign.

He obviously can’t be blamed for the mess which he walked into but he must’ve surely been somewhat aware of just how big a task this would be and it is now up to him to start providing some of the much-needed answers.

The Toffees have picked up seven points from the last nine available at Goodison Park and the atmosphere of the famous old ground could yet again prove vital with winnable looking fixtures against Brentford and Crystal Palace to come during the run-in.

It’s vital Lampard and his players continue to harness the energy of the crowd and maybe, just maybe, they’ll find an ace up their sleeve to drag themselves out of this mess.

In other Everton news, the club could look to design their tactics for the final fixtures around this rejuvenated midfielder.
