Andy Gray savages Frank Lampard and Everton squad for league position
Everton legend Andy Gray has savaged the club’s squad of players for their league position and has blamed Frank Lampard for his style of play.
The Toffees are in the bottom three with six games remaining this season, but have a game in hand over closest rivals Burnley ahead of the run-in.
But the blues legend, while speaking to Daily Mail, believes Lampard has been the man to blame for trying to implement a certain style of play during a battle for survival.
“There’s a group of players there that are short on pretty much everything,” he said. “There’s some good players there, but are they going to be good enough? I don’t know.
“Frank knows that his return has not been good enough. If we’d have got five more draws under Frank Lampard, we’d be well clear right now. That’s the difference.
“I think maybe we’ve tried to think we’re better than we are, that we can play football from the back all the time but you can’t. Needs must.”
Point proven
It’s been the stick that Lampard has been beaten with since coming to the club, but it’s a fact and it’s showing in the performances and the league table.
Back in January when he arrived there was time to implement his style and philosophies, but only of the results dictated it and when they didn’t he should’ve put it on the back burner much sooner.

Obviously the away form has been a major problem too, while injuries and individual errors have cost the side on several occasions too.
But the majority of blame has to go on the players, because prior to this season starting there was no thought process that had the club in this position because we all deemed them to be of a certain level.
It’s impossible that the entire squad has just become not good enough over the course of the season so things need to be done. Buck up the ideas and keep us in the Premier League.
