Ian Rush makes Everton relegation prediction amid Premier League crisis

Ian Rush has admitted that he believes Everton will stay in the Premier League amid their relegation dogfight.

The Blues currently sit 18th in the league, two points adrift from safety but they do have a game in hand on 17th place Burnley.

Despite their tough run, the Sky Sports pundit has ear-marked several winnable games that Frank Lampard has to win to avoid relegation.

“The one thing you can’t do in a relegation battle is feel sorry for yourselves and Everton are in danger of slipping down that path because they’re not used to being in a survival dogfight,” Rush wrote in his Gambling.com column.

“The league table doesn’t lie, but I still think they’ll stay up.

“They’ve got home games against Chelsea, Brentford and Palace – all of whom have little to play for in the league – and if they can get seven points from nine at Goodison then I think that’ll get them over the line.

“Watford away is another game they’ll have ear-marked as winnable, so there’s still hope for Everton, but they’ve got to make those home games count.”

Scrap it out.

The most recent loss at Anfield was a huge show of defiance from this Everton team.

Admittedly, not every game is going to have the tension of a Merseyside derby but the players proved they have what it takes to make it very difficult for teams to beat them – and one of the best teams in the world at that.

Lampard should be delighted with the performance but nobody could blame him for being slightly irked either. His team put in a display that he and all of the fans have been waiting for since the former Chelsea boss first took over in January. Why has it taken them dropping into the bottom three and playing against their bitter rivals Liverpool to kick it up a notch?

The Blues need to show that type of resilience every game from now until the end of the season – home and away. There is no time left for pretty football, it is now do or die and if things don’t change starting with the next game, there is no doubt the Toffees will be a Championship team come next season.
