Simon Jordan defends Jamie Carragher after ‘biased’ commentary during Everton v Liverpool
Simon Jordan has defended Jamie Carragher after he was called out for ‘biased’ commentary during Liverpool’s win over Everton last weekend.
Carragher was on commentary during the Merseyside derby defeat that saw the Toffees fall into the drop zone, and was criticised for favouring his former side live on air.
But speaking in a talkSPORT One-2-One video, Jordan defended the former defender and admitted he too was screaming at Richarlison to get off the floor at one point.
“You can make that case [he was biased] because when he was shouting at the screen for Richarlison to get up, I think he probably reflected the sentiments of a lot of football fans,” he said.
“Because I damn sure know I was sitting in front of the screen screaming for Richarlison to get up and get on with the game.
“It’s difficult because he’s clearly a very entrenched Liverpool supporter having been such a stalwart for that football club.
“Was he biased to the point where it offended me? Has it affected the game? Does it offend people for the sake of being offended? You want engaged, motivated commentators and of course the argument will then be, ‘yeah we do, we want all of that, but we want impartiality.’
“I didn’t take it away from that. I laughed, because I could see in the background people getting outraged because Jamie was very partizan in his response.
“I didn’t take it as a huge level of bias. I don’t think he sat there and routinely and systematically siding for Liverpool in every aspect of that particular game. I just thought it was a person that was reflective of his real character. He’s a Liverpool person. He supports Liverpool on these occasions because he’s played for Liverpool so many times.
“So with that in mind, there was an element of bias. There was an element of an agenda with wanting to be engaged with Liverpool, but so what?”

Rubbish
Sorry Mr. Jordan, but you’re wrong on this one. As a neutral it may seem totally fine, but when you’re supporting a club it makes you want to turn it off.
Broadcasters are supposed to be totally impartial and while everyone does enjoy seeing pundits and ex-professionals being authentic, there has to be a balance.
Everton fans watching that will have wanted to feel as though it was an even playing field and Carragher didn’t give that feeling because of his love for Liverpool.
He might as well have stood up and cheered when Robertson opened the scoring and by offering Divock Origi a statue for the second goal he showed that Everton were simply an after thought in the broadcaster’s minds.
It makes zero difference to the result of the performances on the pitch, but fans shouldn’t be made to feel alienated when watching a game at home and that’s what happened during the derby.
