Everton ace Alex Iwobi shares Goodison Park scenes that gave confidence

Everton forward Alex Iwobi has outlined the major Goodison Park development that removed his “fear” when playing.

This season has seen the Blues fans show their frustration with the manager and players amid their relegation crisis.

However, the former Arsenal man insists a rare show of support from the fans has massively helped his confidence.

He told Liverpool Echo: “I was doing all right [against Manchester United] but then played a sloppy pass.

“The fans clapped the pass because they saw the intent. It was the first time that had happened for ages. To hear that change in environment, I felt, ‘wow, that is kind of nice – as long as you are giving 100 per cent, if it doesn’t come off, they will stay behind you’.

“That support removes the fear of making mistakes, you are prepared to try things on the ball. I feel much more confident.”

Give and take.

Everton fans have been very frustrated for a long time and this season’s shambolic displays have led to a very toxic atmosphere at the club.

It isn’t entirely the players’ fault but both them and the managers have picked up so much scrutiny this season.

There is absolutely no excuse for the Blues being anywhere near the relegation zone, never mind in it, at any stage of the season – especially with only six games to play.

Farhad Moshiri has really done a number on the club but as proven by Iwobi’s admission, it doesn’t have to be all that bad.

If the players just pulled their fingers out and played with some drive and determination, the atmosphere at Goodison Park wouldn’t be anywhere near as toxic as it has been at times this season.

Despite a lot of the problems being out of their hands, the performance level on the pitch has been shambolic which certainly hasn’t helped. All the Evertonians want to see is some effort and hopefully, they get that for the remainder of the season.
