Everton monitoring Celtic star Cameron Carter-Vickers over summer transfer

Everton are among the clubs interested in a deal for on-loan Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers this summer, according to 90min.

The Toffees are reportedly keen to bolster their defensive options this summer after a season that has seen them tussling with relegation all year under Rafa Benitez and Frank Lampard.

But if they’re able to maintain their Premier League status, Carter-Vickers has emerged as a target for the side in a potential £10m deal.

The 24-year-old has spent the season at Celtic on loan from Tottenham Hotspur and the north London club have no plans to integrate him into the first-team next season.

With just a year remaining on his deal in the summer he will be allowed to leave. Celtic have the option to turn his loan deal permanent in a deal worth an initial £6m rising to £10m but interest from Everton, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Wolves, Fulham and Southampton could see his eyes wander.

This is the type of signing the club should be targeting whether they’re in the Premier League or the Championship next season.

Carter-Vickers has been excellent this season and is on course to win the Scottish title as a regular in the team, so he has proven to have experience at the top level.

Described as ‘brilliant’ by Ramon Vega this season, he would walk into the Everton line-up as a first-choice defender and bring leadership, ball-playing ability and youth to an ageing squad.

The Championship will undoubtedly be a tough sell considering the interest in him, but Everton are a big enough club where they could potentially convince him to take the plunge for a year in a bid to help them back up immediately.

Ideally though the Premier League is where the football is played next season and then the club will have no issues paying up and convincing a talented young defender to bolster the squad.
