Everton ace Anthony Gordon must shirk his diving reputation imminently

Anthony Gordon must play a faultless game on Sunday [May 1] as Everton welcome Chelsea to Goodison Park in the Premier League.

Frank Lampard will look to get one up on his former club amid the Blues’ relegation crisis. The Merseysiders find themselves rather disgracefully in 18th in the league – two points behind Burnley.

They will benefit from a game in hand on the Clarets but with the tough run, they face, winning it is far from a guarantee.

One man who will be key in the run-in is Liverpool-born Gordon.

He has been the Toffees’ best player since Lampard came in and in a week where he has faced the most scrutiny he ever has in his professional career – he simply has to make things right.

Character.

Everybody at Everton knows how good of a lad Gordon is. He tirelessly works his socks off every single week for the team, never shirks a tackle and speaks with class off the pitch.

For such a young lad he has got a very level head on his shoulders but his recent on the pitch shenanigans have led to a lot of people forming a very different opinion on the attacker.

He is now seen as a cheat, diver, and a player who tries to con the referees. Admittedly, he has gone down rather easily at times but the youngster is a player with a lot of quality and he really doesn’t have to do these things.

Gordon is a very likeable person if the media take a turn on him it could ruin his career. Everyone knows that it doesn’t take the English press a lot to turn on a player and we have seen it happen somewhat this week with the constant questioning of his character to which Lampard has had to come out and defend him numerous times.

It would be a disaster if he tarnished his reputation after a few minor incidents. He simply has to get back on track and restore his place in everyone’s good books – starting with the visit from Chelsea tomorrow.
