Everton boss Frank Lampard compares Anthony Gordon to Mason Mount

Frank Lampard has compared Everton winger Anthony Gordon to his former Derby and Chelsea ace Mason Mount.

The Liverpool-born attacker has come under severe scrutiny in the media ever since he was booked for simulation in the 2-0 loss at Anfield.

Lampard was yet again hounded about the 21-year-old in his pre-Chelsea press conference to which he flew to his defence, branding him a “great kid”.

He told Liverpool Echo: “There might be lots of reasons for the position we’re in but the reality of definite decisions that happen and go against you in big games against big teams, they can affect you with your points.

“Anthony is a great kid and possesses one of the greatest young attitudes I’ve experienced in the game.

“We’re playing against him this weekend and he’s very similar to Mason Mount, very similar in his attitude, application, his talent levels and he’s fine this week, he’s determined, that’s what he is.”

Future star.

The media aren’t cutting Gordon any slack at all and it is embarrassing to see. Week after week you see players fall to the floor and get the decisions going their way but the winger was incredibly unlucky in the Merseyside derby.

If he hadn’t been booked for the incident, it wouldn’t have got anywhere near as much attention as it has done.

The referee has buried him with that decision and an unfair one at that because players rarely get booked for diving nowadays – obviously not Everton players though.

Gordon will bounce back there is no doubt about that. He is the best player in this squad and his teammates desperately need him if they have any chance of clawing their way out of the relegation zone.

A player with the quality of the Blues youngster doesn’t need to play like he did away against Liverpool. He will soon learn after easily going to the ground massively overshadowing his performance because he was the best player on the pitch.

In other Everton news, Lampard has rubbished the Gordon diving claims after the Merseyside derby controversy.
