Everton shareholder: ‘Astonishing’ Jordan Pickford save v Chelsea among best ever in football
Mike Parry has hailed Jordan Pickford’s save against Chelsea as one of the best ever as the Everton goalkeeper shone on Sunday.
Frank Lampard’s men moved to be within two points of safety with a huge 1-0 win against Chelsea at Goodison Park.
And it was a man-of-the-match-worthy performance by goalkeeper Pickford, 28, that helped seal all three points for the Blues with the England number one making several world-class saves.
One of his saves is now being dubbed as one of the best-ever by Everton shareholder and broadcaster Parry.
“This save from Jordan Pickford is amongst the best ever in the history of football,” said Parry via his personal Twitter account on 1 May.
“Astonishing the speed with which he got back across his line. Better than the [Gordon] Banks/Pele save
“And then he took a full-blooded volley in the face which was one of the bravest.”
Incredible
We still cannot get over how well Pickford did to make that save to stop Cesar Azpilicueta from scoring.
Mason Mount’s effort hit both posts, leaving Pickford stranded at one end of his goal as the ball made its way over to the Chelsea captain.
But even though the ball moved so quickly, Pickford somehow managed to get up, get across his goal and then keep out Azpilicueta’s effort and tip it behind the post.
After that, Chelsea managed to have another chance from a corner and Pickford used his face to stop a powerful, close-range effort from Antonio Rudiger.

Pickford not only showed that he’s an amazing shot-stopper with incredible reflexes but he also showed an unbelievable level of bravery.
It was superb from the former Sunderland goalkeeper, who really deserved to win his man of the match award.
Let’s hope he can keep that up in the final games as the Toffees aim to avoid their first-ever relegation from the Premier League.
