Stan Collymore predicts Everton v Chelsea scoreline in Premier League showdown

Stan Collymore has backed Everton to avoid defeat when they welcome Chelsea to Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.

Frank Lampard’s men go into the game cast adrift in the Premier League’s relegation zone after Burnley won at Watford on Saturday.

There’s currently a five-point gap between the 18th-placed Toffees and Leeds in 17th, however the Blues do have two games in hand on the Yorkshire outfit.

And in the first of those games in hand, Collymore is backing Everton to get a 1-1 draw against Chelsea.

“I’m not sure Chelsea’s players, having virtually secured third, will want to turn the screw on Lampard,” said Collymore in the Sunday Mirror today [1 May, page 48].

Not enough

Everton cannot afford to get anything but a win against Chelsea on Sunday and luckily, as Collymore said, Thomas Tuchel’s men don’t really have anything to play for.

There’s no doubt the Chelsea players will have had a bad night’s sleep after Evertonians set off fireworks outside their hotel last night.

It remains to be seen whether that’ll have an impact on their performance at Goodison Park but you can bet that it wouldn’t have been ideal for the Londoners.

Everton fans will do their bit on Sunday. It’s over to the players now.

And unfortunately, we don’t really have much faith in these players except for the odd shining light like Anthony Gordon.

Chelsea’s lack of pressure means they could have a stroll in the park on Merseyside while we do expect some of our bigger-named players to buckle.

It’s been the case all season – so why would it be different now?

We’re expecting the worst, in all honesty. That way we cannot be let down.

In other Everton news, Collymore has taken a big swipe at this 25-year-old who he suggests is taking the Blues down to the Championship.
