Everton: Jordan Pickford speaks out on importance of the Goodison faithful
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford has said the backing they received at Goodison Park in their vital win over Chelsea was crucial in the performance they delivered.
Everton sealed a crucial victory in their survival bid courtesy of a 46th minute Richarlison goal.
Pickford made a stunning double save in the second half as the home side held on to cut the gap to Leeds United in 17th place.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Pickford said: “They [Everton’s fans] are very passionate and we are as players too.
“To get that buzz on the bus is a great feeling, it touches you.”
Pickford added: “It was about us putting on a performance and making sure that fans went home happy.
“I am a very passionate person and the result means the world to me.”
Everton’s talisman
Pickford’s display on Sunday afternoon was remarkable with a string of fine saves after Chelsea threw everything at the Toffees.
However, Everton also have Richarlison to thank for their good form, especially at Goodison.
The Brazilian has the work ethic, aggression and quality that is lauded at Goodison Park.

His recent performances have spearheaded Everton’s recent good form.
Talking to the Echo, Pickford was full of praise for his teammate: “Richarlison worked hard for 45 minutes against Chelsea and had a couple of chances, then he got his reward with the goal in the 46th minute.”
Pickford added: “Our character and spirit drove us on and, with the fans behind us like they were, it was incredible.”
With two crucial home matches on the horizon, the Toffees could really mount the pressure on Leeds United in the race to avoid the drop.
Leeds face a tricky trip to Arsenal this weekend, whilst Everton travel to Leicester.
With the momentum that the Toffees have gathered over recent weeks, survival does look like a possibility for the Merseyside club.
Two extremely winnable fixtures against Brentford and Crystal Palace, both of whom have nothing to play for, are the best opportunities for Everton to overtake Leeds.
Going into the final day with their fate in their own hands could be crucial.
In other Everton news, one Sky Sports pundit has dismissed any Chelsea firework-related excuse claims while hailing “excellent” Toffees players.
