Dr Dan: Farhad Moshiri could sell minority stake in Everton without ceding control

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton...

Farhad Moshiri could sell a stake in Everton without losing any control of the club.

That’s according to Dr Dan Plumley who claims that a minority stake would still Moshiri to control the inner happenings.

He currently has unanimous control over everything going on at the club and the decision is ultimately his.

According to the Sunday People in March [Goodison News], Moshiri was believed to be ready to sell the club after the sanctions on Alisher Usmanov.

However, Plumley believes that things have cooled on that front and only a minority sale appears to be the likely scenario.

The Sheffield Hallam University expert told Goodison News, “He could sell a minority stake without ceding any control. This is when you talk about the motives and get into the mindset and you just never know.

“He’s got a 100 per cent control at the minute. It’s ultimately his decision as to whether or not that changes and that’s the challenge a lot of football clubs have got.

“The Everton situation has escalated because of the finances and recent performances.

“In theory, he could sell a minority stake without ceding any control, but all the noises coming out suggest that he doesn’t want that.

“They’re so close to survival or relegation and that changes the dynamic in so many ways.”

Everton are still in the relegation zone and have four games to seal their fate.

Relegation undoubtedly will be a massive blow and the club’s valuation will take a significant hit.

In other Everton news, a football finance expert has made a claim on the new Toffees stadium amid a major £300m development in the last week.
