Barcelona make transfer decision on Everton target Memphis Depay

Barcelona are looking to offload Memphis Depay in the summer transfer window, and the news could bring excitement to the Everton camp.

Back in April, Spanish media outlet Super Deporte reported that the Toffees had initiated contact by making an enquiry for the Barcelona forward.

Depay, who joined the Catalan giants on a free transfer from Lyon, has dropped down the pecking order under Xavi, and Sport now shares that the Blaugrana are desperate to let him go.

If Everton manage to avoid the drop, they should make an attempt to sign him in the summer.

Depay is an experienced attacking midfielder who can play in all three positions upfront.

This summer, a massive rebuilding project needs to be taken at Goodison Park, and players like Depay could be a handy addition, especially if the likes of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin depart.

The jury will be out to point out his struggle for Manchester United in the past, but that is not a fair parameter to judge a quality player like him who has scored 145 goals in his club career.

For that matter, the likes of Angel di Maria, Alexis Sanchez, and Radamel Falcao and a host of other big names have struggled at Old Trafford in recent years.

Depay was a sensation at Eindhoven and he was superb at Lyon. He started well at the Catalan club managing 12 goals this season.

However, every manager has new ideas and principles, and Depay simply doesn’t fit into Xavi’s plans.

He has got a wealth of experience to make an impact in the Premier League again. Everton could also get him at a reasonable price, considering that Barca are keen to let him go.

In other Everton news, one pundit was stunned by what he saw an “unbelievable” Toffee do at the King Power.
